Alice Notley is an extraordinary reader of her own work, which, in the last year, she has read in the U.S.A. (Providence, R.I., and Brooklyn, N.Y.), in the U.K. (Birmingham), and in France (The Pompidou Center, Paris). Notley was born on November 8, 1945 in Bisbee, Arizona and grew up in Needles, California. I grew up with the Mojaves, going to school with them. It was Alice Notley who would be in the spring session in 2007. In 1999, Notley was both a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and a winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Poetry.
